With a growing worldwide pipeline of four and five star properties, the manufacturer and the research firm teamed up to analyse how much FF&E would need to be provided in four major regions, published as the FF&E Market Demand Index.
Asian appeal
The research found that US$14.5 billion of FF&E will be required in the Asia Pacific high end hotels market in the next few years, equivalent to $23,684 per key when 611,634 rooms are currently in the region’s pipeline.
Drilling down into the data, we see that China, Vietnam, Thailand, India and Malaysia are the top markets. China itself will form 56.5% of Asia Pacific’s upscale FF&E demand share and 57.35% of the luxury sphere.
American amplification
Over in the Americas, FF&E demand will reach US$11.7 billion over the next few years for four and five star properties. With a current pipeline of 410,004 rooms, this works out as $28,460 per key.
The leading countries in terms of regional requirements are the USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Canada and Jamaica. The USA tops both four and five star equipment demand, with 82% and and 52% of the respective totals.
European essentials
Europe is providing a US$8 billion market for high end hotel FF&E over the next few years. With an additional 289,939 rooms scheduled to be added to the continent’s portfolio, Wood Couture and TOPHOTELPROJECTS calculated this equates to US$27,706 of equipment investment per key.
Generating the most demand by nation, western European countries comprising UK, Germany, Spain, France and Italy lead the list. The UK tops both first class and luxury requirements, with 23% and 17% of the totals, respectively.
African and Middle Eastern machinery
In the African and Middle Eastern regions, overall US$7.3 billion of FF&E will be required in the coming years for four and five star sites. With a pipeline of 196,447 rooms, this works out as $36,991 for each key.
Top regional markets number Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Qatar and Israel. Saudi Arabia heads both the upscale and luxury hotel outfitting demand, representing 31% in each sector.
Research rationale
The FF&E Market Demand Index is a publication intended to provide information on the market potential for loose FF&E for the hospitality industry. For the purposes of the research, FF&E is defined as loose furniture, decorative lighting, window treatments, decorative accessories, artwork and rugs (where applicable).
The research is aimed at hotel operators, developers, investors, brands, architects, designers and suppliers of the hotel industry ecosystem.
